The Earth has a very long history; it has undergone many upheavals, surprising transformations in our appearances and the forms of life that reproduced thereon. Species that would make you shudder – if you were confronted with their strength and their aggressiveness – prevailed in this world during very long periods of time. It was not pleasant to be out there in these parts. Today's man tries to picture these civilisations. The evolution of this planet must continue under conditions that completely escape men's assumptions, in terms of how they will be in a distant future. Their forecasts are based on wrong assumptions. That does not matter; people's minds must be applied to sophisticated calculations where notions of domination are not excluded. They set out to conquer the worlds, yes, but also to impose their law, their techniques and authority: a new kind of colonisation, remote and on a large scale. All current research and preparations are made with this mindset. What prevails is total lack of respect for what can exist on those planets. Man is likely to be unpleasantly surprised to discover, at his expense, that he is not alone and, especially, that he is not the most intelligent."
