Your doctor is a mystic who does not know it. As you said to him, 'the Earth is your ship and not your abode'. He is hopelessly looking for what is inside him, which, if he became aware of it, could give another meaning to his life. Many humans are like that: they vainly seek in human pleasures the answer to a profound question emanating from their inner self. They do not understand why there is this emptiness, this vacuum in them, in spite of a seemingly full and happy life.
"As for the sage, he has understood that his life, his current incarnation, is transitory and that it shapes him according to his behaviours, but that it is not immutable and unique. The sage takes into account the great universal set up; he goes beyond his smallness, his unimportance as a human person. He knows that this life is only one moment in his process and he tries to behave favourably, according to the line of conduct he has set for himself. Man must seek, beyond this life, the perfection to which he aspires deeply, and reflect well on the means of achieving that."
