If man actually wished to realise how small and limited he is, he would be more tolerant towards his fellow creatures. His purported superiority over some groups of individuals, [according to] their social background, race, skin colour, would be brought to considerations more right. There is still a long way to go before men, divested of their arrogance, consider themselves as equal to one another, even if this notion is not easy to admit. Don't be afraid, my dear daughter, these comments may not seem clear to whoever does not want to understand; if at least they touched only one heart, they would not be useless.

"No element of the human mosaic is negligible. These elements add value to one another and they have their respective importance, which is not necessarily visible. Each cell is identifiable as belonging to the same body, which cannot disavow any one of them. All this may seem abstract; wonder about the need for all these differences, which intrigue you or which shock you, in some circumstances.

"Humanity is a large suffering body, which is trying to cure itself of leprosy; the relevant efforts must be unanimous and made with tolerance."
