Don't think of the future, my child, you have enough to do with the present. From time immemorial, men had adapted themselves as best they could to the great mutations of the Earth: the great upheavals generated by cataclysms that separated territories, created continents, islands, climate changes, mountains where there were none. The Earth was torn up, ill-treated, shaken up, and that is not finished, but you should not worry about all that. The Earth's life is taking its course, as yours is going its way. You are passing through here below; it is not. Its time is not fleeting like yours. It will still have much to undergo; men themselves do not spare it. That is the saddest part of it."
