In the sacred texts, the mountain has been often a symbolic image. It is true that a spiritual ascension can be compared to the climbing of a high mountain peak. It is to be climbed stepby-step. Beyond a certain height, it becomes more and more difficult. The last part, toward the peak, is tough. Efforts must be precise and mistakes are sometimes fatal.

"This undertaking is long and repetitive. The necessary requisite human qualities must be unfailing; few starters reach the highest point.

"Everyone goes as far as his or her physical and mental strength can permit. There are few winners, but they are an example to the multitude that aspires to perform such a feat.

"Their turn will come; it is by keeping the hope to always go farther in this conquest that they draw up a path preparing them for the achievement of their efforts. That mountain to cross is within them. When they discover this truth, they have already made an important part of this ascension. They know where they must go and find means and strength that will permit them to reach the goal."
