Human beings struggle continuously with their tendencies, which they try to control. It is a ceaseless game which keeps them in an uncomfortable position sometimes. A well-led spiritual work helps them to alleviate the most embarrassing positions. The step of awareness of what slows down one's evolution is a significant one. An incarnation necessarily comprises – to various degrees – a handicap of this kind. The work achieved within the Mission is a revealing one; it allows the being to better know himself, and to ensure that obstacles slowing down his progress are removed.

"There are various levels of action in this work, which cannot be easily categorised. A human's critical mind confuses easily all expressions of character – a genetic asset necessary to one's incarnation. They [characters] emerge inevitably and can be even reinforced temporarily through the cleaning process. One can be amazed by all these considerations. Man must face a certain number of characteristics which define him and which he must control, so that the new being can emerge in him, relieved from its original gangue."
