In the sacred texts, the mountain has often been a symbolic image. It's true that a spiritual ascent can be compared to climbing a high mountain peak. It's to be done step by step, and beyond a certain height, it becomes more and more difficult. The last part, towards the peak, is tough. Efforts must be precise and mistakes are sometimes fatal.
This undertaking is long and repetitive. The human qualities needed for it must be beyond reproach; few who start out reach the highest point.
Everyone goes as far as their physical and mental strength permits. There are few chosen ones, but they are an example to the multitude who aspire to achieve such a feat.
Their turn will come; it is by keeping the hope to always go further in this conquest that they draw up a path that prepares them for the success of their efforts. This mountain to cross is within them. When they discover this truth, they have already made an important part of this ascension. They know where they must go and find the means and strength that will allow them to reach the goal.
