Regain courage, do not give up. Your practice does not have to suffer from the problems you must solve concerning your health; a good solution does not lie there. Keep confidence; this is of primary importance. Think of all these human beings who are suffering, tracked down, persecuted, and who have no hope of finding any solace. Let your heart keep beseeching grace for this humanity in perdition. All you who live in countries hitherto favoured, do not forget your brothers. Tomorrow will perhaps be your turn to undergo the despicable cruelty of some of them, driven to their limit by an exacerbated fanaticism and a poverty inciting them to the worst excesses.

"You should value what life gives you, if you belong to privileged people. Open your eyes to the realities of this world and try to be fair in your analyses of the current situation. No country is innocent of crimes being committed; whatever are the [underlying] reasons. In the majority of cases, profit has priority over the suffering of mankind. Do not weaken, remain attached to your sadhana; you are working as such for the regeneration of the world."
