Each aspirant to spirituality must undertake the same combat against his tendencies. There cannot be satisfactory results without this sense of discipline. The most elevated spiritual Master cannot impose on a heart rebellious to any work. The most powerful method still requires personal efforts from the person concerned. The Master, the method and the receptivity of the aspirant contribute to the best results. Is the latter [the aspirant] willing to do everything to advance? It is up to him to see if he is, and be committed enough to attain the goal.
"Some among you think that it is enough to sit down and await the miracle that will utterly transform them: this would be too simple and not praiseworthy on the part of the seeker. A minimum of effort and commitment is necessary. How could it be otherwise? The profound motivation of the abhyasi – as far as our way is concerned – is a determining factor.
"The combined efforts of the Master and the disciple are the best warrant of success. This is why we try to place at your disposal various means, to help you to become aware of the difficulty in advancing on the way to perfection – a strong aspect of spiritual realisation."
